Manahawkin Lake Pavilion

Manahawkin Lake Pavilion

On October 22nd during the Annual Fall Harvest Festival, Stafford Township will have a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m, at the Manahawkin Lake Park to dedicate the newly reconstructed Lakeside pavilion.  The original pavilion was a historical landmark in Stafford but was torn down in 1966 due to its age and condition.  The rebuilding of the Manahawkin Lake Pavilion is part of the successful Townships Adopt-A-Park program that allows businesses, organizations, clubs and individuals to sponsor and donate toward our numerous parks in Stafford Township.

This pavilion was built at virtually no Township expense, thanks to the support and donations of businesses and organizations that will be recognized at the ribbon cutting.  Mr. Paul Butterick for donating  the installation of the pilings,  Walters Homes for donating the labor to construct the pavilion, Roth roofing for donating the installation of the cedar shake roof, The Rotary Club for donating the money for materials, and Jersey Outdoor Media for donating the historical sign that will be installed on the roof of the pavilion, Reynolds Landscaping and Garden Shop, Stafford Historical Society, Greg Brearley Architects and CME Associates Engineering and Planning.

This has truly been a community effort and even in these tough economic times it is a reflection of what can be achieved by a community coming together.

It is anticipated the new pavilion will generate more community involvement, small concerts and numerous other events.  The view from the pavilion looking across the expanse of clear blue water, lined by the deep green foliage white cedar sands and topped by blue sky cannot help but bring a smile to anyone who appreciates nature.

Reconstruction of this historic pavilion has been a dream of Mayor John Spodofora over 15 years, it has always been a place for mediation, relaxation and most important it is a place for our community to interact while enjoying the beauty of our Lake.  The Mayor and Council are confident that our current and future generations will enjoy this pavilion as much as our past generations, and develop their own memories of living in Stafford.

This area continues to be the crown jewel of Stafford Township.  The Lake is the geographic center, cultural center and historical center of our Town.  Numerous Township events are held at the park throughout the year.  However, it is mainly a place for our residents to relax, picnic, swim, fish and enjoy the scenic views while contemplating the role this lake played in our unique history.
