The Department of Public Works was notified of major erosion around an outlet control structure in the upper lake in Colony Lakes. The erosion was investigated and found that there was a major failure at the pipe penetration of the structure. The area around the structure was sandbagged to prevent any further erosion and to stabilize the area.
In order to further investigate the extent of the damage, the outlet for the pipe, which is located about fourty feet into the lower lake and underwater by about five feet had to be plugged. Stafford Township Department of Public Works and the Stafford Township Water and Sewer Utility combined forces and worked together. Stafford Township Public Works employee Frank Servidio and Scott Dougherty both certified divers, sandbagged and plugged the pipe to stop water flow from the lower lake back to the upper lake. Once the flow was stopped, we pumped the water out of the structure, cleaned the debris out, and prepared the strucure for the repair.
The contractor, RTW Construction was then able to install new pipe, build concrete forms, and pour concrete to encase the new pipe and stop all erosion.
