Memorial Day 2018
Memorial Day is different from other holidays, it is a time to commemorate and celebrate with humble reverence the memory of our veterans who epitomize valor, sacrifice, loyalty and bravery. It is a time when we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and a time to be thankful that these brave men and women lived, and served our country. It is a time to remember their families, and loved ones who were left behind, and lost so much.
This year Congress authorized March 29th as National Vietnam War Veterans Day and established a National 50th anniversary remembrance for all U.S. veterans who served between Nov.1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 all are recognized as Vietnam veterans. The VA estimates that we are losing as many as 382 Vietnam veterans a day, it is important to reach out to them with a sincere “thank you for your service and sacrifice.” Now is the time for all Americans to fully embrace the brave men and women who returned home from Vietnam, often to shame and disgrace, by publicly thanking them.
Seldom do we take the time to think about the price of freedom, and the men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
We honor our Veterans not just with stone monuments, parks and displaying flags. The true expression of honor is to remember these individuals in our hearts each year, let them never be forgotten.
Each Memorial Day weekend Stafford honors our Veterans with special ceremonies at the Ocean Acres Elementary School on May 24th, Southern Regional High School on May 25th ,and American Legion Post 511 conducts an additional Memorial Day service at our Municipal Complex in our veterans Memorial Plaza on May 27th starting at 1:30 in the afternoon, everyone is welcome to attend.
